In my meditation practice, I often find that I am saying thinking thinking thinking more than rising, falling. I am beginning to total accept... "it is all good" and to beat myself up for not doing it right is to go back to formal religion and having to do it right or god, Sr Mary somebody, the priest, my mother will give me one of those looks.
I looked up thinking.....the process of using one's mind to consider or reason about something. That is not what I am doing.. what I have been doing is rehearsing what I am going to say to some one.. either apology or blame or I am reviewing what I have already said or done. Looking forward...Looking backward. My head is spinning.
If I were really thinking, it would lofty...world peace or solving the ozone issues. No...I am spending my mental time on rehearsing and or reliving. It is either going back to a place I will not visit again or forward to a place I will never see since a conversation will never evolve as I planning or rehearse it. Crazy stuff. so... I am going to drop that and drag me back to the Now.

Thank you so much for this. As a neophyte at meditation, I find I am planning or remembering more than focusing on breathing. It is encouraging to know that people with more experience can also encounter these issues. But I feel so much better even after what might be considered an unproductive session that I am going to stick with it!!
Thanks for the astute differentiation between thinking vs. reviewing and imagining. Let's all do some productive and creative thinking…in addition to simply being…
It's all good.
Great insight :-)
