I stayed at the Wally last night. I found out they don't really open until 6...but as a long ago friend once said. You can do anything if you do it casually. So at 5:30, I just marched in with the rest. In my Pj's I looked like I belonged. I bought a wool hat last night and it will be great for tonight. I have a few pic to put in before the canyon. I stopped at the Powell lake Dam and found all these Italian's that had rented Harley's in Chicago and were going to LA... interesting. Again they were not impressed that I had a 250 Piagiao. There is only one place to eat in Page ...at least that everyone recommends...3 eggs, 3 toast and lots of coffee.. enjoyed breakfast, but by the time we got out of the canyon at 2:45 after going in at 11..I thought my throat was cut. Today coming up the Canyon road, there was a moose crossing..but it was too dark. I am in the cafeteria and the food smells terrific but I want to get this off and hopeful have some pictures. I am just going to load the pictures and tell you that i went in to the canyon on a photo shoot and felt like I had a brownie hawkeye... the woman next to me had a 14mega pix ... and the smallest Nikon was 400... we all had tripods and then others came and it looks like a Hollywood shoot... no flash of course. Of course I am having trouble getting the photo's into the blog....grrrrr. I will try to do them one at a time.. but I have only a few moments before the room will close and I am not sure if the general store is open. I am sad if this does not load, but know I had the time of my life and didn't even mind or give a second thought to crawling down the ladder into ratttlesnake canyon. YES....at least one is in..... This is a very narrow slit canyon on the Navaho reserve. Gabriel was our photo guide...and he got us to the exact spot the sun was going to come in and then said ok...line up there and the like will be here in 2 minutes... scramble scramble...shot in the front...etc.. and we all clicked. Wish I had the photo course a head..but I fused with the ameture..and used my tripod...and went to manual...and I am pleased with some of the photos. Tonight I will clean the camera and try to get the sand out of it. I tried to be very careful, but it feels like it is a little grinding. My shoes were very full of sand. I am coming to agree that the Grand Canyon that was almost named big canyon is just that... very big..deep. so far mesa verde has been the most intereesting with zion the more majestic and bryce the most interesting. Anelope will be the one I remember. I am starting to bond with the camera. I bought a great book at breakfast that helped me take the tripod and fuss with the amp. It is a signed book of photos and tips for around Page. Many people come there to use the lake etc. and the sales tax was only 4%. In talking with Gabriel, he has to travel to Tuba -50 miles for medical service and he is a diabetic. Very common in the native culture. They also operate a coal power generating plant with several cities in CA. They have done some things about the emission but it is still an environmental issue. My dinner tonight has been kit kat's...there are more foreigner here than US...sounds like many french..
Well I just erased a photo..so I must be getting tired... I will try to reload it but if not..tomorrow is another day. I am in spot 79 in the Fir Loop... it is rather by the road..but i can change tomorrow... It was dark and cool tonight and I wanted to get these into the blog. Actually there were only 12 spots left out of 350..so I am not alone.
Time to send....this is the ladder I crawled down with my camera and tripod and water... I just knew there would be some good pics ahead. night night... I will be here for two days...nice not to move.
