Crawling out of bed

Crawling out of bed has new meaning for me these days.   To get to the rug on the floor and prepare for the new bed, the old bed had to go.  I have to sleep someplace, so my mattress is on a board on the bare floor.  I found the bed I want.  It is a simple bed with four pull out drawers that I located at Ikea in the Malm series.  Perfect.  The end tables are out, the chest of drawers is out…great stuff… space.  But, I am sleeping on the floor and expecting more of my poor legs than I should by having to start the day on my knees and putting great responsibility on the exhausted joints to move my hulk to standing.   Of course since I have a lingering urinary tract infection and must drink and release more water, crawling out of bed happens more than once a night and sometimes, there is more of a requirement to be an Olympic jogger while trying not to open the eyes.
Getting the bed was #1 on the list.  Daily I went to the website for Ikea and searched the three Canadian stores and the Pittsburgh store.  On Thursday it said there would be 12 in the Vaughn store on Sat.  So, line up the Ryder truck and get ready to crawl out of bed early Sat and drive to the store above Toronto.  This would be a solo trip in a 10 foot cargo van that you could live in.   I checked on Sat morning and 0 beds at Vaughn but 5 pieces at Burlington.  What does 5 pieces mean.  There are 4 drawers, headboard, foot board  middle rib, and slats….To go or not to go…. Go my inner guide said so off I went..down the thruway, over the rainbow bridge, up the QWE and finally the Burlington Bridge.
I never thought of parking a very very large van but my guide said… drive to the exit and run.   As luck would have it there was a three car parking space and with some moving, I settled into one and prayed I could get out.   I ran like someone on those  shop till you drop programs, grabbed a buggy and ran to aisle 10…. A stack of drawers.. it said 2 for $65,  so I picked up 4 boxes… well not gracefully or easily since they are very very heavy.  Once you get that kind of weight on the buggy…it has a mind of its’ own.  Run to aisle 2… and just as I got there a kind helper was passing by and helped with the buggy and moved the two pieces of the bed onto the cart….we walked to aisle 4 since no one else was in the warehouse….normal people shop and then pick up.   I have my list from on line and was determined.  The truck is $49, insurance $44 and then .39 a mile plus the diesel fuel… I was not coming home without the entire bed.   Aisle 4, the metal cross beam and the queen size bed slats…. I have the bed.   When I went to pay and the tab came out $100 more I found that 2 for $65 mean 2 in a box so I only needed 2 cartons.   I paid and then move the buggy to the car with a great helper who loves working outside.  After I figures out the button system for the van, my bed was on it way to my bedroom.
I did manage to go back in the store and have a cup of coffee and a sticky bun and spend $200 plus on stuff… and then the drive home…… sit at the border…. I got a soda and put it in the cup holder and take one sip before the glass tumbled out and the liquid went down the door step and on to the highway.
I picked up Russ my helper and Brother Joe came down to help unload.  We then loaded all the doors that were in the basement, the hammock system that was in the back, Chucks old bike, etc. and got back on the highway to deliver the stuff to folks that wanted it….  Had some dinner…and then I came home and was greeted by a very beautiful array of orchids that Kim had thoughtfully sent.   I am not sure how I managed, but I got the poor old dog out and back since Jim had to work late…. And then crawled back into bed....but soon to be sitting and laying down for a good nights rest.

I know what you mean about getting up off the floor! Was on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor in the boat and when I got to the stairs, I thought - how am I going to get these 62-year-old knees to stand upright from a kneeling position? It wasn't pretty! Glad you got your bed - wish I could have gone to Ikea with you. Maybe next time.

I'm amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that's both
educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
I'm very happy I found this in my hunt for something regarding this.
